Hardwood Floor Refinishing – Restore the Beauty of Your Floors

Are your hardwood floors scratched, dull, or worn down? You don’t have to replace them. Professional hardwood refinishing can bring back the rich color, smooth finish, and natural beauty of the wood you fell in love with. Superior Custom Flooring offers careful, dust-conscious refinishing that makes old floors look new again.

Give Your Existing Hardwood Floors a Fresh Start

Over time, even the best hardwood floors start to show their age—scratches from pets, dull spots in high-traffic areas, faded color from sunlight, and small gaps or imperfections. Refinishing is the process of sanding down the surface, repairing damage, and applying new stain and protective finishes so your floors look beautiful and last longer.

Refinishing is often more affordable than replacing your floors and allows you to update the look of your home without tearing everything out.

Signs Your Floors Need Refinishing

You may be ready for refinishing if you notice:

  • Deep scratches, scuffs, or worn patches

  • Dull, cloudy, or uneven sheen

  • Stains or discoloration that don’t clean up

  • Bare wood showing through the finish

  • Faded areas from sun exposure

If you’re not sure whether you need a simple “screen and recoat” or a full sand and refinish, we’ll inspect your floors and recommend the best option.

Our Hardwood Refinishing Services

Full Sand & Refinish
We sand your floors down to bare wood, smooth out imperfections, and apply new stain and multiple coats of finish. This is ideal for heavily worn floors, deep scratches, or when you want to change the color of your wood.

Screen & Recoat (Buff & Coat)
If your floors are in generally good shape but look dull or lightly scratched, we can lightly abrade the surface and apply a fresh top coat. This refreshes the finish without a full sanding and can extend the life of your floors.

Color Changes & Stain Updates
Want to go from light to dark, or update an outdated color? With a full refinish, we can help you choose a modern stain tone that fits your style—classic oak, rich walnut, gray tones, and more.

Minor Repairs Before Refinishing
Before we refinish, we can address small issues like minor gaps, loose boards, or small damaged areas so your finished floor looks even and consistent.

Our Refinishing Process

  • In-Home Consultation
We visit your home, inspect your floors, discuss your goals, and help you decide between a full refinish or a screen and recoat.

  • Preparation & Protection
We ask that furniture and personal items be moved from the work area. We then protect nearby surfaces as needed and explain what to expect during the project.

  • Sanding & Smoothing
We sand the floors to remove old finish, scratches, and surface wear. We use professional equipment and methods to keep dust under control as much as possible.

  • Stain Application (If Desired)
If you’re changing or refreshing the color, we apply the stain evenly and allow it to fully dry.

  • Finish Coats
We apply multiple coats of durable finish (water-based or oil-based, depending on your preference and needs) to protect your floors and give them the desired sheen—matte, satin, semi-gloss, or gloss.

  • Final Inspection & Clean-Up
Once the finish has cured, we walk the floors with you, review care instructions, and make sure you’re happy with the result.

Finish Options

We offer different finish options to match your lifestyle:

  • Water-Based Finishes – Faster drying, lower odor, and often lower VOCs; great for busy households.

  • Oil-Based Finishes – Classic warm look and excellent durability, with a bit more amber tone and longer dry times.

We’ll explain the pros and cons of each and help you choose the best option for your home.

FAQs – Hardwood Refinishing

Most projects take a few days, depending on the size of the area, the condition of the floors, and the type of finish used. We’ll give you a clear timeline before we begin.
You don’t always have to leave the home, but you will need to stay off the work areas while we’re sanding and finishing, and during drying times. We’ll help you plan the project to minimize disruption.
Yes. With a full sand and refinish, we can usually change the stain color—going lighter, darker, or choosing a more modern tone.
This depends on wear and tear, but many floors need refinishing every 7–10 years. A screen and recoat may be done more frequently to refresh the finish and extend the life between full refinishes.
Use felt pads under furniture, avoid dragging heavy items, clean with a hardwood-safe cleaner, and avoid excessive water or harsh chemicals. We’ll provide simple care tips after your project is complete.
